The Rathauspassagen behind Alexanderplatz became a socialist showpiece of 1970s East Berlin. The combination of housing for more than 900 people with social facilities and exclusive shops promoting a humanistic community was unique at the time. Straße Nummer Eins lets old, new and former tenants tell their stories, in search of the ideal community in a totalitarian system and its destiny in German society after the end of the global communist empire.
