Jacques - Discoverer of the Oceans

France, 1949: Jacques Cousteau (Lambert Wilson) lives with his wife Simone (Audrey Tautou) and their two sons in a paradisiacal house on the Mediterranean. He and Simone dream of adventure and faraway places. Together, the couple sets off on an expedition of the oceans aboard the Calypso, leaving the children behind at boarding school. When the adult Philippe returns to his parents on the ship after years, he hardly recognises his father: the former pioneer Jacques has become a global film star and womaniser who is willing to sacrifice everything for a perfect image. Philippe, on the other hand, has realised that the oceans are being destroyed by humans. He sees it as the Cousteau family's responsibility to protect the ocean's biodiversity. On their greatest adventure together, a dangerous expedition to Antarctica, father and son find their way back to each other. But then fate strikes... Few names are as associated with the discovery of the oceans as that of Jacques Yves Cousteau. He was involved in the development of the "Aqualunge", which enabled divers to venture into previously undiscovered parts of the ocean, and showed the newly discovered worlds there to a global audience in his films and series. Cousteau was a pioneer, explorer, filmmaker, photographer, book author, businessman and scientist. His crew, the Calypso and last but not least the red cap are still famous worldwide today. Director Jérôme Salle (ZULU) gathers Lambert Wilson (MATRIX RELOADED) as Jaques-Yves Cousteau, Pierre Niney (YVES SAINT LAURENT) as his son Philippe and Audrey Tautou as his wife (THE FABULOUS WORLD OF AMÉLIE) in front of the camera. The film was shot on location in Brazil, South Africa, Croatia and - for the first time ever in a feature film - in Antarctica. The result is a visually stunning epic that unfolds its full magic on the big screen.
