Havana in 1994. The island state is suffering from a tightening of the economic embargo by the USA, and from the collapse of the Soviet Union, which supported Cuba economically. The political situation is coming to a head and Cuba is starving. The lives of Candelaria (75) and Víctor Hugo (76), however, seem unaffected. One day is like the next, the monotony of deprived everyday life has both of them firmly in its grip. But the daily grind comes to an end when Candelaria finds a video camera hidden in the dirty laundry of the hotel where she works. Still unsure what to do with it, she takes it home with her. This camera, which is a foreign body for both of them, gradually becomes the centre of their lives as the couple learn to deal with it and film themselves dancing, kissing and making love. The spark of regained love helps them forget that one of them is ill. They have found each other again and discovered a new life together. Until one day the camera disappears. Distraught at the idea of losing that which had the meaning back into their lives, Victor Hugo seeks out "El Hormigueo", a dangerous place in the centre of Havana where everything that has been stolen can be found again...
